According to BoxOffice.com's Early Weekend Estimates, Shrek Forever After will easily retain its place at the top of the box office. The fourth ogre flick looks poised for $24.5 million during its third weekend in theaters. After starting off with underwhelming numbers, Shrek 4 is taking advantage of what's turning out to be a weak summer.
Get Him to the Greek is going to fare the best out of all newcomers. The Universal comedy is set to bring in $17.5 million this weekend, which is a respectable start. Expect the raunchy comedy to hold its audience quite well over the next couple of weeks.
Killers is on pace for a modest $15.3 million. The Lionsgate release has officially ended Katherine Heigl's hot streak. The actress was able to deliver much stronger openings for 27 Dresses ($23.0 million) and The Ugly Truth ($27.6 million).
Marmaduke isn't successfully diverting the attention of coveted family audiences away from Shrek 4. The 20th Century Fox release is headed for an underwhelming $11.2 million haul.
Splice is the weekend's biggest dud. The horror flick will end up with only a little more than $7 million. Despite having an aggressive marketing campaign, Splice is not finding an audience.
Check back tomorrow for studio weekend estimates.
