According to BoxOffice.com's Early Weekend Estimates, Toy Story 3 is on pace for $61 million during its sophomore frame. That represents only a 45 percent drop from its debut. The Disney/Pixar effort should come in just shy of the $230 million plateau by the end of the weekend.
Adam Sandler's latest effort is set to return the comedian to glory after the disappointing opening of last summer's Funny People. The Sony/Columbia release is on pace for an impressive $38 million.
The star power of Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz isn't enough to give Knight and Day a healthy start. The 20th Century Fox release looks on pace for $20 million over the weekend, which will give it a total of a little more than $27 million since opening on Wednesday. Moviegoers must be feeling a strong sense of déjà vu after recently being exposed to the similarly-plotted Killers. The opening marks another bit of bad publicity for Cruise, who is still struggling to get back to a healthy level of drawing power at the box office.
Check back tomorrow for studio weekend estimates.
